Hon
Emerine Kabanshi MP
Minister of
Community Development, Mother and Child Health,
Lusaka.
Dear
Honourable Minister,
Re:
Proposal to Honour His Excellence Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata
We
would like to deliver our heart-felt condolences to the government of the
Republic of Zambia and more to the family of the late President. We further
would like to propose to your Ministry to name the Ambassadorial Country Award
on Disability being awarded by the African Disability Alliance to the
government after our late President. We propose that the award be called the Michael
Sata Ambassadoral Country Award on Disability. We feel this will be a big
hour to our great President.
We
observe the following:
i)
Mr.
Sata ensured the Persons with Disabilities Act of 2012 was enacted immediately
he came into power as a promise he made to persons with disabilities.
ii)
Government
has quickly put in place a National Policy on Disability and its Implementation
Plan.
iii)
Government
has re-appointed Disability Focal Point Persons to ensure mainstreaming of
disability issues across all government ministries.
iv)
For
the first time, government increased the budgetary allocation to the Zambia
Agency for Persons with Disabilities by 80% in the 2014 national budget.
v)
The
Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities is in the process of training the
Focal Point Persons on disability mainstreaming.
These
are great milestones under the leadership of the late President. Therefore
honouring him will be a good service to Zambia. We hope our proposal will be
accepted.
May
His Soul Rest In Peace
Bruce
Chooma
